Plenty of people lump massage parlours and brothels together, but their services and legal standing are quite different. Knowing which is which saves you from turning up at the wrong place with the wrong expectations.
The real difference is scope
A legitimate massage parlour offers therapeutic, relaxation-focused body massage aimed at easing tension and fatigue — no sexual services. A brothel is a licensed adult-services venue offering companionship and sexual services. They’re different by nature, so don’t bring one’s expectations to the other.
Different regulation, too
- Massage parlours. Run as health and wellness businesses, focused on bodywork.
- Adult-services venues. Regulated specifically in Victoria and required to operate under licence.
- Watch the grey area. Places that offer more under a ‘massage’ banner are often unregulated and higher-risk.
Choosing without the pitfalls
Decide what you actually want first. For pure bodily relaxation, a proper massage parlour. For adult companionship, a licensed adult venue. Either way, stick to legal, above-board places — the money you’d save at a dubious spot can cost you far more in hassle.
