The Comparison Guide

Melbourne Brothels — How They Differ and How to Pick One

Most guides to Melbourne brothels are thinly disguised ads for one venue. This one is written by a venue, so read it with that in mind — but the comparisons below are the ones our own regulars made before they picked us, and they are the questions worth asking of anywhere.

Three Kinds of Melbourne Brothel

Almost every venue in Melbourne falls into one of three groups, and which one suits you has very little to do with price.

City and inner-north venues. Largest rosters, longest hours, easiest to reach without a car. You will also be walking in off a busy street, paying for parking if you drove, and sharing a waiting area with more people. Convenient rather than private.

Western and southern suburb venues. Generally cheaper, generally smaller. Rosters tend to be short and repeat, and a lot of these venues turn over every few years, which is why reviews of them age badly.

Eastern suburb venues. Thinner on the ground — there are only a handful between Camberwell and Ringwood — but the ones that last tend to last a long time. Free off-street parking is normal out here, and so is a quiet industrial street rather than a shopfront. Pussycats has been at 3 Leslie Court in Burwood since 2009.

What Each Price Band Actually Buys

Time is the unit. What varies between venues is whether the number you are quoted is the number you pay.

Band What it usually means
Under $100 for 20 min Almost always a room-hire figure with the lady fee added afterwards. Ask for the total before you leave home.
$110–$140 for 20–30 min The normal established-venue range for a short booking with one lady, room included.
$180–$250 for 45–60 min Standard hour pricing across most of Melbourne. Above this you are paying for the building, not the service.
$210–$450 two ladies Two-lady bookings scale roughly with time rather than doubling. Worth confirming both ladies are actually available before you arrive.

For reference, here is our own published table — the same one printed on the homepage, with no separate door charge:

20 minutes · 1 lady$110
30 minutes · 1 lady$130
45 minutes · 1 lady$180
60 minutes · 1 lady$230
20 minutes · 2 ladies$210
30 minutes · 2 ladies$250
45 minutes · 2 ladies$350
60 minutes · 2 ladies$450

Venue density drops sharply once you cross Burke Road heading east, which is why so many eastern-suburbs searches return city addresses. If you live out this way, these are the suburbs people actually travel from:

Five Checks Worth Making

  • Is the total published? A venue that will not tell you the full price over the phone will not tell you at the door either.
  • Does the roster move? A dated roster that changes through the week is a roster. A gallery that has looked the same for a month is marketing.
  • Do the photos get verified? Ask. The answer tells you more than the photos do.
  • Where do you park? Off-street parking at the door is the difference between discreet and theoretical.
  • How long at that address? Continuity is the closest thing this industry has to a reference check.

Ours, for the record: prices published above, a dated weekly roster with reception-verified photos, free off-street parking in an industrial cul-de-sac, and seventeen years at one address under registration SWA7043BE.

What Changed When Victoria Decriminalised

The brothel licensing regime was wound up in two stages, in May 2022 and December 2023. Before that, a licence number was a meaningful signal. Now it is not — there is nothing current to hold. Venues operate under the same health, safety and planning rules as any other business.

Practically, this means the old shortcut for judging a venue is gone, and the checks above replace it. It also means the things worth checking now are how long a venue has actually been trading and what its reviews say, rather than a licence number.

Asian Brothels Specifically

If the reason you are reading this is that you want an Asian brothel in Melbourne, the practical difference is roster depth. A venue with two or three Asian ladies on a mixed roster is not the same proposition as one that rotates Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese ladies through the week. Language matters too — ask whether reception handles Mandarin or Cantonese before you assume it does. There is a full Chinese version of this site.

Good To Know

Melbourne Brothels — FAQs

How many brothels are there in Melbourne?

There is no single public register since Victoria removed the brothel licensing regime in 2022–2023, so any exact number you see quoted is a guess. Practically, venues cluster in the CBD and the inner north and west, with a much thinner spread through the eastern suburbs.

Are brothels legal in Melbourne?

Yes. Victoria decriminalised sex work in two stages, in May 2022 and December 2023. Brothels now operate under ordinary health, safety and planning law rather than a special licensing system. Old licence numbers (ours was SWA7043BE) are now just a record of how long a venue has been around, not a current permit.

How much do Melbourne brothels cost?

Most established venues price by time, with room hire and lady fee bundled into one total. A short twenty-minute booking typically starts near $110 and an hour typically lands between $200 and $300. Venues that quote a low “entry” figure and add the lady fee afterwards are the ones worth asking twice.

Is a city brothel better than a suburban one?

They are different trades. City venues are convenient if you are already in town and are usually larger and busier. Suburban venues in the east tend to be smaller, quieter, have their own free parking and are far less likely to put you on a footpath in front of a crowd.

What is the difference between a brothel and a massage parlour?

A brothel is a venue where sexual services are provided and priced as such. A massage business advertises massage. Venues that blur the line are usually doing so because one of the two things is not actually on offer.

How do I know the photos are real?

You mostly cannot, from the website alone. What you can check is whether a venue publishes a dated roster that changes through the week, or a static gallery that never moves. A roster that has not changed in a month is a gallery.

Do Melbourne brothels take walk-ins?

Most established venues do. Calling first is still worth it, because it tells you who is actually working before you drive anywhere.

What should I check before I go?

Five things: a published price that includes room hire, a dated roster rather than a stock gallery, off-street parking if discretion matters, how long the venue has traded at that address, and whether anyone will tell you the total on the phone.

Single-venue detail lives on the Melbourne brothel pillar page; this page is the comparison.
